It Started with a Complex Problem
In 2004, Lucas Huang, who worked on the Hubble Space Telescope for NASA, and Chafic Kazoun, who wrote the book on the original software tools we used to create our products, were asked to build a better clinical skills exam system. They were tasked with automating multi-angle digital video recording, multi-role assessment, and all associated reporting and tracking. Their solution also had to be as reliable as paper-based exams and 100% web-based. Chafic and Lucas said, "Ok, we can do that."
Over the past 14 years, B-Line Medical has grown from a small start-up with four U.S. medical school clients to become the world's leading provider of video-driven healthcare education solutions for both simulated and live clinical care environments. B-Line Medical has continued to refine and refresh its core technologies while adapting to the evolving standards and practices of the healthcare simulation industry and clinical care providers. Thanks to this dedicated and unwavering approach, B-Line Medical has secured an impressive and loyal clientele that consists of over 500 hospitals, medical schools and nursing programs throughout the world. Clients include Mayo Clinic, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Boston Children's Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, Stanford University, Johns Hopkins University, Harvard University, and Yale University.
B-Line Medical launched SimCapture Pro, a game changer for healthcare simulation that offers a fully cloud-based software platform, remarkably small onsite audiovisual footprint, and affordable subscription pricing. SimCapture Pro also allows for seamless upgrades to SimCapture Enterprise and Enterprise Plus.
B-Line Medical launched SimCapture EMR. Users can now build robust EMR forms directly in SimCapture’s Checklist Builder. EMR forms can be used in Enterprise checklists and Enterprise Plus workflows. Tabbed layouts, multiple types of form fields and multi-column options allow end-users to replicate any popular EMR. Users can leverage an existing EMR template to get started or build their own.
B-Line Medical launched multiple product updates to help larger centers operate more efficiently such as Center Sign In, Automated Audio Announcements, and Scheduled recordings to name a few. B-Line Medical also introduced support for wireless IP cameras for use with Ultraportable units to further broaden their line up of supported camera technology that was already the industry's most robust.
B-Line Medical launched two new products, DebriefCast™ and SimCapture Node™. DebriefCast is a user-friendly debriefing tool for educators that allows any captured session to be streamed full-screen to a debriefing station while maintaining a presenter mode on the facilitators iPad. SimCapture Node is a remarkably compact, comprehensive and scalable in-room solution that includes all the software functionality and versatility of a centralized, rack-mounted installation.
B-Line Medical introduced first-person point-of-view video recording integration with SimCapture via our innovative Google Glass application. The application captures video from a unique perspective, allowing simulated events to be viewed through the eyes of learners and patients to gain a richer perspective of their experience and provide more informed feedback. With Google Glass, clients can connect wirelessly to any SimCapture in their institution's network and record simulation sessions in high definition. B-Line Medical also celebrates its 10th anniversary.
B-Line Medical launched IP camera support for a truly universal video input platform that supports analog, IP, HD and web cameras in addition to medical devices and scopes. B-Line Medical also launched a cloud video platform for cloud-based storage and immediate playback fo captured events.
B-Line Medical launched the SimCapture and LiveCapture Ultraportable units. These compact, all-inclusive audiovisual solutions are affordable, portable, and scalable systems that come with everything you need for recording, debriefing, and assessing simulated and live clinical events. Setting up in minutes and weighing less than 20 pounds, these solutions are tailor-made for recording in-situ simulations and in-vivo clinical events; the ability to debrief from anywhere, at any time provides maximum flexibility to our users.
B-Line Medical launched the LiveCapture platform. The LiveCapture platform records live clinical events and offers secure debriefing and auditing capabilities of core performance measures. The network-based solution for hospital quality improvement significantly reduces costly errors while simultaneously improving efficiencies and reimbursement rates. The video-driven auditing solution drives immediate ROI for hospitals.
B-Line Medical developed and launched SimCapture based on the success of Clinical Skills. SimCapture enhances and automates simulations and OSCE management by seamlessly combining high quality video capture, simulator data integration, secure debriefing and assessment, and robust reporting.
B-Line Medical was founded and developed its first product, Clinical Skills. Clinical Skills was a custom-made solution designed for facilitating OSCE exams, built with an intuitive and state-of-the-art method for starting and stopping recording.
